Stand for holding reels of silk, made of turned white beech and English apple-wood.
Upon a cylindrical base supported by three ball feet of gilt metal are three tiers reels: six small reels on the bottom tier, five on the central tier and one large reel at the top. There was previously a finial but this is no longer present.

Object history | When first acquired this object was described in the Acquisition Register as follows: 'Stand for holding reels of silk, of white beech and English apple-wood, with finial of bone and cast brass. Italian (?), 18th century. Height 26.7 x Diameter 6.4 cm. Upon a cylindrical base supported by three ball feet of gilt metal are three tiers of six and five small reels, and one large reel respectively. At the top is a counts’ coronet surmounted by a seated squirrel.' (RF: 3409/09) |
