Place of origin |
Furnishing fabric of printed cotton chintz for a blind. The effect of the repeat is of a 'wall' of windows in half-drop, and their pointed arches springing from square section pillars and the bottom of each window ending in a crenellation which is the top of the spandrels of the next. Under the point of the arch is a flower-shaped light and two small cusped lights. The main window is divided into three by slender columns. On the elongated hexagonal grid, which supports the glass, are a heraldic rose and four identical mock coat-of-arms. Colours are black, buff, lilac, blue, golden yellow, pink and red. The black and red may be printed by roller but the other colours seem to be added by wood-block.
Printing stops before the edge. The length of the repeat is 26 inches. The chintz is heavily glazed.
