Weft-faced compound, tapestry weave of wool and silk. Possibly Egyptian or Byzantine, ca. AD600-900. A light cream background with a pattern of dark cream. The pattern creates diamonds across the fabric. Within each diamond is a small motif (3mm wide), vaguely heart shaped. The warp is of double threads of wool, the weft of silk and z-spun wool (the darker cream).
