Place of origin

As well as pottery, Carter & Co. of Poole produced painted earthenware tiles. Recalling traditional Dutch Delftware tiles of the 17th and 18th centuries, these reflected the revival in hand-painted pottery of the period. Lively pattern designs with a contemporary feel were contributed by freelance artists, including Edward Bawden and his student-contemporary Dora Batty.
