The presentation occured before about 1893 as a photograph of that date shows him wearing the medal. This photograph, where he is aged about 12 years old is in the Theatre Museum collections.

The V&A was also given a small collection of medals awarded to Fred Fitzroy. The medal itself was mass produced by a manufacturer in Birmingham.
