Brother Thomas Bezanson, an American citizen, was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1929. He was a Benedictine monk at Weston Priory in Vermont for twenty-five years and worked as an artist-in-residence with the Benedictine Sisters of Erie from 1985. His work followed a studio craft tradition that embraced an Oriental aesthetic, and was characterised in particular by his masters of Chinese - inspired glazes. He died in 2007. This handsome decorative plate demonstrates Brother Thomas' superb handling of the material and reduction glazes.
