Place of origin |
This bronze bust, made by an unknown artist in ca. 1800-20, depicts George III looking straight forward wearing a toga fastened over the left shoulder with a circular brooch. The head may be compared with the portrait of George III as shown on the coins of the first decade of the nineteenth century, in particular the 3-/ piece by Nathaniel Marchant. The bust seems to bear a resemblance to the lithographed head of George III by M. Gauchi published by F. Moser in 1820 which purports to be taken from a bust in Goldsmith's Hall.
