Object history | Worn by Miss Mary Hannah Chester (1820-1896) when she married Mr Woolmer on October 12th 1848. We also have the white patterned silk waistcoat worn by Mr Woolmer for the ceremony (T.182-1927) and a blue silk dress worn by their daughter Mary Chester Woolmer in 1874 (T.181-1927). The donor related that the wedding dress was worn with a white silk coal-scuttle bonnet with a face frill inside the crown, trimmed with a spray of orange blossom and two veils (one draped over the front, one over the back.), and a shawl of cream-flowered damask with fringes. These have not survived. |
