The Last Judgement

Relief
ca. 1680 - ca. 1700 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

The present piece was probably not intended as an independent relief but belonged to a series. Departmental records suggest that it was accompanied by a set of six small rectangular reliefs depicting scenes from the Life of Christ and one larger relief of the Nativity. Little is known about the artist who signed the relief although stylistically similar pieces are to be seen in churches in the City of London. A 'John Thompson' was documented as a mason working at a number of city churches, and may be identical with this 'John Tomson.'.
