This is a sketch model in terracotta of Saint Paul. The thinness of the model and the fact that it is not finished off behind suggests that the statue was destined for a niche. The Saint's beard terminates near the right shoulder, and his head must therfore have been turned sharply to his right.

He wears a loose robe, the heavy clock thrown over his left shoulder is caught up under his right forearm. Under his right arm he carries a sword, and in his left hand an open book to which he points with his right forefinger. The head is missing. |
