Gallery label | Pair of goblets and covers , with mould-blown ribbing England, probably early 20th Century (C.169 and C.170-1993) .(18/06/2009) |
Credit line | Formerly part of the Barry Richards collection. |
Production | Probably 1900-1930. Coins of 1711 in the bases, coins of Charles II (one pierced) in finials. Wendy Evenas considers these possible Whitefriars products: they are scaled down, the piercing of the coin looks suspicious, the proportions are odd and the covers (rare in any case) are not of the expected form. The survival of such a pair from the early 18th Century would also be improbable. |
