This medal depicts the bust of Giovanni de' Medici delle Bande Nere and was made by Danese Cattaneo (1508-1573) in Venice, Italy in the middle of the 16th century.

Giovanni de' Medici delle Bande Nere was born to Giovanni de' Medici and Caterina Sforza.
He was a very physically trained person, did horse-back riding and sword fighting.
He married Maria Salviati and they had a son Cosimo, who later bacame Duke of Florence.
