Gallery label
Fu Baoshi was one of the most significant Chinese painters of the 20th century. During his early career, he travelled to Japan to study. His time there informed his later work, which revolutionised Chinese ink painting by incorporating Japanese elements. This painting places Chinese scholars in a monumental landscape, but uses a Japanese-format mount.(17/01/2017)
