Physical description

Contact print photograph depicting Queen Elizabeth, (later the Queen Mother); Princess Elizabeth (later Queen Elizabeth II) and Princess Margaret, Buckingham Palace, 1942. Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother is seen half-length, seated on a gilt and upholstered chair. She wears a plain, belted dress with a pearl necklace and holds a flower in her lap. She looks down towards Princess Margaret, who sitting close to her mother, returns her gaze. Meanwhile Princess Elizabeth looks towards the camera. She sits behind her younger sister, rested on the arm of her mother's chair. The two princesses wear matching short-sleeved, button-up shirts with rounded collars, and pearl necklaces. The backdrop is a silk and brocade curtain with a floral design.
