Resting one elbow on the back of her chair, she holds one hand in the other. She wears a uniform (Grenadier Guards) blazer with a brooch on the lapel, and a matching hat decorated with a ribbon, a pearl and a leaf-like emblem. A backdrop depicts an enlarged and adapted section of 'The Gardens of the Villa d’Este at Tivoli', c.1761-62 by the French painter Jean-Honoré Fragonard (1732-1806).
