Place of origin

Contact print photograph depicting Queen Elizabeth (later Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother), Buckingham Palace, May 1953. Seated, and seen three-quarter length, partly in profile, with a relaxed and contemplative expression. She holds a closed fan in her lap. Queen Elizabeth is wearing a gown embroidered with sequins, which form a pattern of curved lines. The neckline of the gown is a wide oval, sitting softly over her shoulders. A sash is worn across her body, decorated with brooches and insignia; and a light-coloured fur and silk stole is wrapped around her. She wears diamond jewels set with dark-coloured stones, and a decorative tiara. A painted backdrop depicts a view of Windsor Castle. The scene is framed by a dark draped curtain.
