Physical description

Contact print photograph Queen Elizabeth (later Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother), Buckingham Palace, May 1953. Standing, and seen three-quarter length, in profile, with a relaxed and happy expression. She stands at the end of an upholstered sofa, resting one hand on the back of the seat, with the other by her side. Queen Elizabeth is wearing a gown embroidered with sequins, which form a pattern of curved lines. She wears a light-coloured fur and silk stole wrapped around her. She wears diamond jewels set with dark-coloured stones, and a decorative tiara. In the background interior scene, there are large marble columns.
