On learning she was to have a third child, Queen Elizabeth wrote to her midwife Sister Helen Rowe, of her delight. She added: ‘The children were very excited at the news of the baby, especially Charles, who loves small children.’ In this image, the parents and children crowd around the crib to admire the new member of their family.
