Untitled (Monopoly)

Photograph
2003 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Abandoned rooms are the subject of Andy Lock's disquieting pictures. His photographic images are projected onto painted phosphorescent surfaces, creating an unfixed but luminous afterimage. He re-photographs these as they begin to fade. With a satisfying conceptual circularity, these works capture transient images of rooms that are in turn on the brink of disappearance or demolition. They also deal with the notion of the latent image that underpins the practice of traditional photographic technology, under threat in the digital age.
