Edith Crapper (1896-1979) was a British illuminator and miniature painter active during the twentieth century, a period of revival of the art of the portrait miniature, led primarily by women artists in Britain and North America. This miniature depicts the artist's father, Thomas Crapper, who was a sanitary engineer. Crapper's portraits are reminiscent of the distinctive style of Tudor miniatures, most notably by Nicholas Hilliard.
