Tea Bowl
1984 (made)
Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
Tea bowl, made from the open-grained creamy almost white clay known locally in the Seto and Mino areas as 'mogusa tsuchi', it is loosely and fairly heavily thrown in an almost cylindrical shape. The rim is slightly carved and the base sculpted in a few energetic strokes to give a shallow and uneven footring.
The decoration on the exterior of the bowl consists of heavily applied underglaze iron splashes of an abstract nature slanting downwards and across from left to right. The white Shino glaze, which covers the whole bowl except the footring and its immediate surroundings, is opaque in most areas due to the thickness of its application and the effects of some sort of crystallizations.
