The lid is in two halves. One is simple piece of rectangular wood, the other is the same but with a tongue which projects into the 'U' shaped opening, leaving enough room above it for a finger to be inserted for carrying. The whole container and lid is covered in a translucent brown lacquer shading to yellowish on the edges.
