Physical description
Pen and bistre depicting a group of Apollo and Marsyas contending, and seated opposite each other in very easy attitudes. An hexangular composition.

Marks and inscriptions
Inscribed at lower right, in brown ink (with the museum's Dyce inv. no.), 187. Inscribed on the old (Richardson?) gilded mount (trimmed to an octagon), at lower right, in a nineteenth century hand, in pencil (with Dyce's original inv. no.), 616.
