Marks and inscriptions
Inscribed at lower right, in brown ink (with the museum’s Dyce inv. no.), 388; on verso, in brown ink: at upper left, N. 56; at upper centre, TT; and along left edge (with the sheet turned 90º), Lucas van Leyden; and at lower right, in black chalk, L– / 10:0. Inscribed on plain old beige mount, at lower right, in a nineteenth-century hand, in pencil (with Dyce’s original inv. no.), 196.

Possibly Jonathan Richardson sen. (1667–1745), London (possibly fragments of his pressmarks on verso; L. 2983); Rev. Alexander Dyce (1798–1869), London, by whom bequeathed to the museum (L. Suppl. 153b), 1869.
