This picture is a still from an animation taken from the computer game "Cube Quest", designed and programmed by the artist Paul Allen Newell. "Cube Quest" was an arcade game released in 1983 by the company Simutrek Inc.,
were you had to maneuver a space ship through a series of corridors in the Cube.
Paul Allen Newell (b. 1927-1992) was a pioneer in the field of artificial intelligence and developer of computer games and computer programs, like Logic Theorist in the 1950s and the problem-solving software system SOAR (State, Operator, and Result) in the 1980s. The program learned from experience as it was able to remember how it solved problems and how to make use of that knowledge in the subsequent problem-solving.
