From 1979 to 1992 Herbert Franke created artworks using the computer and image analysis system ‘Dibias’. It was initially developed for processing optical data from satellite photography. During this period the artist collaborated with Horst Helbig, a computer programmer and together they explored mathematical visualisations. This image is derived from a conformal map, a mathematical object based on complex numbers.
