A composite design for a silver candlestick and nozzle, derived from two designs by architect and designer William Kent (1685-1748) by an unknown artist. Kent visited Rome in 1715 where he met Richard Boyle, 3rd Earl of Burlington who became his patron. Boyle encouraged Kent's interest in architecture when they returned to London together and Kent soon started receiving commissions for buildings and furniture in the classical style. His most famous buildings include Holkham Hall, Norfolk, and the Horse Guards, Whitehall.

Attribution note: These two designs from Kent were engraved by John Vardy as pls.21 and 22 of his publication Some Designs of Mr Inigo Jones and Mr. Wm. Kent... 1744. The base of the candlestick and the separate sketch of the nozzle are derived from pl. 21 while the upper portion of the candlestick and its nozzle are taken from Pl.22.
