Model, gilt and enamelled bronze, and carved stone and oak of the tomb of William de Valance, Earl of Pembroke (d.1304), in Westminster Abbey. An engraved brass label attached to the pedestal on which the model stands includes the following 'The figure is of copper, zinc and tin, by Mr. Wm Beattie, and is gilt by the Electrotype process. The enamelling is by Mr. Robert Ainger, and the base of Caen stone by Mr C.H. Smith. The whole under the superintendence of Albert Way Esq. Director of the Society of Antiquaries, London, &c'. The recumbent, fully armed effigy, with lion at feet and shield enamelled with the Valence arms at side, rests on an oblong sarcophagus of oak with diaper of the English and Vaence arms painted on the top. The whole rests on a plinth with moulded cornice and base, carved with shields of arms and gothic rosettes.
