This bronze medallion, is an electotype of the original silver medallion, made by Antoine Vechte in ca. 1857 in England.
The original, executed in repoussé or beaten work, by A. Vechte, of the National Medallion was destined for distribution in the yearly competition of all the Art schools in the United Kingdom.
It was given to the museum by the Science and Art Department.

This bronze medallion is an electrotype copy from the National Medallion, which depicts in the centre the bust of Queen Victoria crowned; the allegorical border round represents at the top Genius attended by Justice, Truth, Science and Fame; Below is Time holding a shield to contain the name of the successful competitor.
