Historical context note
The Northern Rave/Madchester look was centred in and around Manchester and Liverpool. Its followers steered away from the football terraces and into clubs such as the Hacienda. Their style was cheeky, baggy and andrognyous, including amusing T-shirts printed with puns on well-known trademarks. Mancunian clothing companies such as Joe Bloggs became synonymous with the Madchester look.
Pair of boots, purple nubuck, Kickers, France, ca. 1987; part of Raver 'Madchester' outfit, UK, 1987-88.
