Place of origin |
Perspective view of a small dome, surmounting an octagonal lantern with Ionic columns and volutes, and a sketch plan. This design is by Sir William Chambers (1723-1796). On the verso, the plan of a circular church with three main altars and four screened chapels. Chambers has begun to improve the domed drawing with pencil and alterations. The plan on the verso, with its very schematic treatment and perfunctorily shown outer wall, is probably a design rather than a record. It has similarities to Gianlorenzo Bernini's S. Maria dell' Assunzione, Ariccia and Legeay's plan for St Hedwig's Cathedral in Berlin.
