Place of origin |
Detail, possibly an architectural decoration, with a male nude seated on a broken scrolled pediment, with a military trophy, and a detail and profile of a wall or ceiling moulding. On the verso, the torso of a man. This is a puzzling drawing. While the lighting and composition of the figure suggest a trompe-l'oeil painting, the moulding detail does not. It may represent a baroque console table, with a detail of the ormolu edging. This design is by Sir William Chambers (1723-1796).
