Evening Dress

1968 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Evening dress of short, sleeveless design with shift shape, made of white cotton guipure with a stylised floral and foliate pattern. The armholes are cut away and edged with pink and green diamond pastes, white and black beads and black bugle beads. These also edge the round neck and hem. The inner edges of the armholes and neck are bound with cream grosgrain ribbon.

The dress fastens at the centre back with a zip and two hooks and eyes covered by a guipure flap secured by tiny press studs. The dress appears to have no seams but they have been concealed by carefully joining the guipure motifs. The guipure is faced with stiffened white cotton and the dress is fully lined with a double layer of off-white fine silk and matching organdy.
