This bronze medal was struck to commemorate the visit of Queen Victoria to Epping Forest in 1882. The Queen opened the forest for public use and it became known as the 'People's Forest'

Physical description

Medal, bronze, struck from a die, commemorating the visit of Queen Victoria to Epping Forest. Obv.: Bust of Queen Victoria to left, crowned, surrounded by a border or rose, thistle and shamrock. Rev.: IT GIVES ME THE GREATEST SATISFACTION TO DEDICATE THIS BEAUTIFUL FOREST FOR THE USE AND ENJOYEMENT OF MY PEOPLE FOR ALL TIME. EPPING FORREST. 6 MAY 1882. Queen Victoria seated at the entrance to Epping Forest; at the left a female figure representing the City of London grasping a broken barrier.
