The treaty of marriage between the Prince of Wales and Princess Alexandra was agreed in February 1863 and arrangements were made for the Princess's visit to Britain in March that year. This medal was produced to commemorate the public entry of Princess Alexandra into the City of London.

Physical description | medal, bronze, struck from a die, commemorating the public entry into the City of London of Princess Alexandra of Denmark, afterwards Princess of Wales, 7th March 1863. Obv.: ALEXANDRA. Head to left. Rev.: WELCOME ALEXANDRA MAR. 1863. The Princess lead by the Prince of Wales and attended by Hymen is welcomed by a female figure representing the City of London, accompanied by Peace and Plenty; the latter offers a diamond necklace and earrings. In the background the triumphal arch erected at London Bridge. In the exergue, the shield of arms of the City of London. |
