This bronze medal commemorates the opening of the New Royal Exchange by Queen Victoria on 28th October 1844 as well as the laying of the first stone by Prince Albert in January 1842. The shield of arms and crest of Sir Thomas Gresham and the shield of arms of the City of London and the Mercers' Company are also depicted within a wreath of oak and laurel.

Medal, bronze, struck from a die. Obv: ROYAL EXCHANGE OPENED BY H: M: QUEEN VICTORIA OCT: 28 1844. Head to the left, crowned. Rev: FIRST STONE LAID BY H.R.H. PRINCE ALBERT JANY. 17 1842. The shield of arms and crest of Sir Thomas Gresham and the shield of arms of the City of London and the Mercers' Company, with a wreath of oak and laurel.
