Physical description
Bottle, stoneware, partly covered with a greyish-green glaze.
It has a bulbous body with two rows of fluting, expanding mouth, and two small loop handles. There are particles of fused clay in the bottom part of the body.
Gallery label
Bottle of porcelain, partly covered with a greyish-celadon glaze. A "waster" from the kiln, with lumps of fused clay adhering to the sides. Found near the site of the ancient potteries at Sawankalok. Made not later than the 15th century and perhaps as early as the reign of Phra Ruang in the 13th century. SIAMESE. H. 2 3/8 in., diam. 2 3/8 in. Bought (Nos. 479 - 521, £220). 495-1906. Bulbous body with two rows of fluting, expanding mouth, two small loop handles.
Object history
Purchased from W. H. Fulham (Wallace Bros, 8 Austion Friars, EC), accessioned in 1906. This acquisition information reflects that found in the Asia Department registers, as part of a 2022 provenance research project.
Found near kiln site. Made not later than the 15th century and perhaps as early as the reign of Phra Ruang in the 13th century. Bought in a set (Nos. 479 - 521, £22).
