The Walt Disney animated feature film, The Lion King, was released in 1994. The story was strongly influenced by Hamlet, one of William Shakespeare's tragedies. The story takes place in a kingdom of anthropomorphic animals in Africa. The film holds the record for the highest grossing traditionally animated film in history and was awarded the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy in 1994. There were only two video games based on The Lion King produced. This one, by Virgin, was made for both Sega and Nintendo games consoles.

Physical description
Boxed video game, 'The Lion King.' The game is a black plastic cartridge with paper label showing a picture of a procession of animals in silhouette against a large yellow sun. The bottom edge of the cartridge is open and has a circuit board inside.

Black plastic jewel case the outer part of which is covered with clear plastic encapsulated paper. The front cover shows a picture of a procession of animals in silhouette against a large yellow sun. The back shows four scenes from the game and a text panel describing the game. There is a rectangular compartment and clips for the instruction manual inside the case for the cartridge, and a plastic tab for hanging it up protruding from the top.

77-page booklet with instructions for the game. It is printed in black and white and has a colour printed front with the title in four languages and a picture of a procession of animals in silhouette against a large yellow sun.
