The Walt Disney animated feature film, The Lion King, was released in 1994. The story was strongly influenced by Hamlet, one of William Shakespeare's tragedies. The story takes place in a kingdom of anthropomorphic animals in Africa. The film holds the record for the highest grossing traditionally animated film in history and was awarded the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy in 1994. There were only two video games based on The Lion King produced. This one, by Virgin, was made for both Sega and Nintendo games consoles.
