Mug of earthenware, cylindrical in shape with a loop handle. At the rim and base are bands of moulded wreath-pattern, coloured green. Round the body, against a background of combed slips, in white and three shades of brown, are applied reliefs of a ship in a medallion with a ribbon inscribed 'VILLA DE PARIS', and on each side are standing figures of admirals bearing flags which are inscribed respectively 'LORD HOOD' and 'LORD RODNEY'. The glaze over the reliefs is slightly stained with green.

Physical description
Mug of earthenware, cylindrical in shape with a loop handle. At the rim and base are bands of moulded wreath-pattern, coloured green. Made to celebrate Rodney's victory over the French Admiral de Grasse in the West Indies in 1782. Hood commanded the Van Division in the battle under Rodney.
