Tea caddy, of nakatsugi form, the lid with a flat top and sharply bevelled edges, wood decorated with abalone shell mosaic set into black lacquer in twelve alternating light and dark bands, composed of a mosaic of shell squares, radiating from the top centre of the lid and running down to the base; the shell is a type of abalone obtained by the artist from Mexico. The interior of the caddy is in black lacquer and the riser in silver nashiji (irregularly-shaped flakes of silver suspended in lacquer resembling the granular skin of a pear). The caddy is contained within a storage box inscribed, 'Yogai so raden omogire nakatsugi' and signed 'Tatsuaki' with red seal, 'Tatsu'.
