| Historical context | In May 1986 the two designers had a 'brainstorming session' at which they sketched out a wide variety of ideas for a new range of furniture. This drawing formed part of the next stage, in which they refined the field and suggested possible manufacturers, including the Hoskins Co., a Birmingham metalworking firm for which they had been making designs. The designs on this sheet show a number of influences, such as the Memphis group from Milan. The 'Rib' chair is inscribed 'our production' and 'wood'. |
