Jug of earthenware transfer-printed in black enamel, and pear-shaped with a moulded foot, projecting lip and loop handle. On one side is a portrait of Frederick the Great, partly surrounded by rococo scrolls, and inscribed 'FREDERICK III KING OF PRUSSIA'. On the other side is an oval medallion with the portrait of George III inscribed 'G.R.' and set in a landscape against a group composed of a lion, a figure of Fame with a trumpet, and clouds. Below is the Royal Arms if England and the inscription 'Indulgent Mercy from th' Almighty / Throne / O'er regal grief benignant shone ; / To transport turn'd a people's fears, / And stay'd a people's tide of tears, / And gave a Sovereign o'er a joyful land, / Again with vigorous grasp to stretch ye / scepter'd hand.' Round the neck is painted 'Sarah Pairpoint'.
