Hanging

1800-1880 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Triangular hanging of plain weave cotton embroidered with silk in chain or tambour stitch. Three loom widths of blue cotton seamed vertically. The right hand corner is missing. The seams were made before the embroidery was worked. There is a scrolling foliate border in white edged in yellow, between two lines of red. The main design rises from the lower left hand corner on thin yellow and white stems with small round yellow blossoms and 4 large red ones with orange centres.
Some under -drawing is visible.
Faded in the centre; it seems to have been overlapped by something else on three sides. There is a line of tack or nail holes along the sides suggesting it has been nailed onto a wall, perhaps above a door frame.
