Gallery label
TEAPOT CUP AND SAUCER Sevres Porcelain Factory Paris (Sevres): various dates 1869-1876 Porcelain with pierced decoration 147 & a,154 & a,155-1877 These pieces form part of a service which came to the Museum as part of the regular series of exchanges between the French and British governments in the later 1800s. Such gifts were generally drawn from the national manufacturers which, in the case of ceramics, meant the Sevres factory. This service represents a pierced ware which was a Sevres speciality during the period when China was a main source of inspiration. It is close to Kangxi originals, which were exported in considerable numbers and familiar to Western collectors. Given by Mons. Ie Ministre de 1'Instruction Publique et des Beaux-Arts
