This vase called a 'Vase d'Argenteuil' was included in the Sevres porcelain display at the Paris 1900 Exhibition, for which the factory won a Grand Prix. In the 1880s Charles Lauth and Georges Vogt, the Sevres chemists, developed new porcelains and colours. These, and a large range of new shapes, many of them by the artistic director Alexandre Sandier, revolutionised Sevres production. The forms were mainly simple with a generous expanse of body while the newly introduced colours were able to take multiple firings giving wider scope for the decorators. |
