This dress was made for a young girl of around four years old and was designed by Pierre Cardin specifically to be sold for the American luxury department store, Neiman Marcus in the 1960s. The use of a strong geometric cut and simple colour palette of cream with a red stylised heart-shaped motif and border make this a recognisable Cardin-designed dress.

Physical description
Dress for a child around four years old. The dress is made of a thick cream material. Its shape is sleeveless and a-line shape with a pointed hem that dips down at the centre front and back of the dress. The dress has hand stitched appliqué detail around the bottom of the dress comprising a 5cm border of red fabric that marks the bottom pointed hem all around and forms in to a heart-shaped motif in the centre of the bottom portion of the dress in the same fabric piece as the border. The dress is constructed with one front panel and two back panels with a zip fastening from the back of the neck down to about waist height. It is fully lined in a hand stitched cream-coloured polyester.
