Cameraless Photography Christopher Bucklow (b.1957) Sleeping Guest, 8.17 pm, 31 July 1996 1996 Dye destruction print 99 x 72 cm Museum no.E.587-1996 Given by the artist in memory of Ray Smith The people depicted in Bucklow’s Guest series are mainly characters who have appeared in the artist’s dreams. The images are created by drawing around a person’s silhouette. Bucklow transfers the outline to foil and punctures it with thousands of pinholes. The foil is stretched over a box containing photographic paper which is exposed to the sky. Each hole focuses the sun onto the paper to create a glowing, otherworldly presence.
