Physical description

A presentation pack consisting of a sheet of card, folded in three, containing a black paper and cellophane folder holding mint condition stamps which reproduce works or details of works by Edward Bawden, Ben Nicholson, Henry Moore and Stanley Spencer. The sheet of card is illustrated with details of some of the artists' other works, photographic portraits of the artists and is printed with explanatory material, biographies, credits and acknowledgements.

These sheets are from a very large number of designs in the collection showing the steady evolution of ideas for a multi-million pound revenue earning exercise for Royal Mail. Not only the stamps but also the first day covers and the presentation packs have to be submitted to a lengthy and complex refining process of presentation and exchange between designer and client, who is represented by various committees operating under strict rules.
