Preliminary designs for the 'Art in the 20th Century' stamps, presentation pack and first day covers for Royal Mail 1991-1992
Various media including pencil, coloured chalk, pen and ink on tracing paper.
These sheets are from a very large number of designs in the collection showing the steady evolution of ideas for a multi-million pound revenue earning exercise for Royal Mail. Not only the stamps but also the first day covers and the presentation packs have to be submitted to a lengthy and complex refining process of presentation and exchange between designer and client, who is represented by various committees operating under strict rules. |
