Physical description

Portrait of the author, Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra. Three-quater length view of him seated writing at a desk, looking towards his right (the viewer's left). Behind is a window opening showing Don Quixote and Sancho Panza in a church, mounted on their horse and ass respectively. A helmet and sword hang up on the window frame.
